THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 28-year-old door-to-door salesman of household utensils was found dead in his friend’s house at Balaramapuram in the early hours of Thursday. The police identified the victim as Biju, a resident of Vazhuthacaud. Circle Inspector, Neyyatinkara, P. Anil Kumar said Biju had sustained an injury on his thigh, possibly from a sharp-edged weapon, and may have bled to death. He was living in his friend Gopakumar’s house at Thanivila. Mr. Gopakumar and his father Muralidharan Nair told investigators that a five-member armed gang wielding sticks had entered their house at 2 a.m. and beat Biju to death. Mr. Muralidharan Nair told the police that the gang members were let in after they claimed to be policemen on night patrol. They said they were too terrified to take Biju to the hospital and none of their neighbours came to their aid. Mr. Anil Kumar said the police would question Mr. Gopakumar’s wife, sister and other inhabitants of the house. The police said Biju hailed from a poor family living on M.P. Appan Road. Biju’s father made a living supplying snacks to wayside eateries in the city. Biju had worked for sometime as a salesman for a Malayalam daily. There is no criminal case registered against him.
