Exams cancelled

BHUBANESWAR: University exams in the wee hours! Sounds incredible. But it was made possible by a city-based college that is affiliated to the Utkal University of Culture.

On a tipoff on Thursday morning at around 5.30 am, as the university squad made a surprise visit to college at Patia, it found the examinees of the Personality Development paper of the third year’s last semester busy writing their papers since 4 am while the three-hour exams was scheduled to start at 7 am. On enquiry, it was learnt that the college authorities were adopting this illegal practice ever since the exams commenced to ensure that their students scored the best results.

On further investigation, the squad was shocked to find that of the 90 question papers sent to the college in a sealed cover which was to be opened at 7 am, one question was taken out and distributed among the examinees after getting photocopies. To mislead the squad, fake answer sheets along with the questions were being distributed to the examinees at 7 am, it was learnt. The squad recovered 89 question papers from the college while the rest one was missing.

University Vice-Chancellor S.C.Panda confirmed the irregularity and stated that the ongoing exams at the college would be cancelled and rescheduled. The Board of Management would decide if the college should be black-listed, he clarified.
