Work on convention centre to begin next month

Thiruvananthapuram: The construction of the proposed international convention centre at Aakulam will commence next month.

Presiding over a meeting of officials convened to discuss the project here on Thursday, Minister for Home and Tourism Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said Chief Minister V.S.Achuthanandan would lay the foundation stone on June 4.

The function would be organised in connection with the second anniversary celebrations of the LDF government.

The project will be jointly implemented by the Department of Tourism and private companies.

The first phase of the project is expected to cost Rs.205 crore.
