Collector inspects desilting work

HEARING THEIR VIEWS: Kancheepuram Collector Santosh K. Misra interacting with womenfolk engaged in desilting the Vetrambakkam lake under the NREGS.

KANCHEEPURAM: Collector Santosh K. Misra inspected works taken up under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in Chithamur and Lattur panchayat unions.

While inspecting the desilting of the Vetrambakkam lake at Parukkal village panchayat in Chithamur block, he interacted with people engaged in the work. A total of 58 persons, including 41 women, were engaged for the work taken up at a cost of Rs.8.17 lakh.

Mr. Misra visited Perunkaranai in the same block and inspected the manual desilting taken up at the Siviri lake at a cost of Rs.13.63 lakh. He distributed wages to those employed at Perunkaranai.

A group of women complained that ration goods were not being supplied properly at the Perunkaranai public distribution system shop.

Subsequently, Mr. Misra conducted a surprise check at the PDS shop manned by K. Balakrishnan. When the complaints were found to be true, he directed Revenue Divisional Officer, Madurantakam, Somu Pandian, to initiate action against the shop employee.

Mr. Misra inspected works taken up under State-sponsored schemes in Chithamur and Lattur panchayat unions, according to a press release.
