98 candidates disqualified
Staff Reporter
GUNTUR: The Election Commission of India has disqualified 98 defeated candidates of the 2005 September municipal elections in Tenali and Bapatla from contesting any kind of election for three years.
On a report sent by the District Collector to the State Election Commission on non-filing of accounts by 52 defeated candidates in Tenali and 46 in Bapatla, it had sent them notices for not filing accounts within 40 days from September 26, 2005 when the results were announced.
Those candidates did not file any reply to the notices, which led to the State Election Commission passing an order, on May 14, disqualifying all of them for three years from contesting any election from that date, which makes them ineligible for contesting next municipal elections if held on time.
