Jaipur: Banned for five One-Day Internationals, Harbhajan Singh is set to lose a proportionate sum of his annual contractual fee. Harbhajan is a Grade ‘B’ player with a retainership fee of Rs. 40 lakh. The BCCI will compute the sum taking into the account the period he was suspended after he slapped S. Sreesanth in the DLF-IPL match between Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians and the five-match ban from One-Day Internationals. The Punjab off-spinner could lose about Rs. 8 lakh. A BCCI official told The Hindu that Harbhajan was banned for five one-day matches because that is the maximum the Disciplinary Committee can invoke according to the rules and regulations for players. “It’s either a reprimand, Rs. One lakh fine or maximum ban of five one-dayers and / or three Test matches. All this is mentioned in the player contract.” The BCCI’s rules and regulations for players were revised in 2000. The BCCI will soon bring in regulations that will be in line the with the ICC rules. Harbhajan has been clearly told that one more act of misconduct will invite a life ban and this has been mentioned in the order issued by the Disciplinary Committee. — Special Correspondent
