Indian women triumph



Sweet Success: The Indian ladies team — Hema Deora, Bimal Sicka, Yvette Singapuri and Marianne Karmarkar — which won the SAARC bridge championship held recently at Colombo.

Chennai: The Indian women’s team, consisting of Hema Deora, Bimal Sicka, Yvette Singapuri and Marianne Karmarkar, achieved a trophy triumph in the SAARC bridge championships held in Colombo recently.

It finished on top 285VPs, ahead of Fainza (258) and Pakistan (249). Around 150 players from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and the host country took part in the five-day competition. The men’s team (Maya Meera Sneha) represented by Ashim Mukherji, Kamal Mukerji, Vijay Goel, Sukamal Das, Badel Das and Sumit Mukherji emerged the winner with 296 VPs. The next championship will be held in Bangladesh (2010).
