Lawyers go on strike

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Lawyers at Tis Hazari courts here went on a two-day strike on Thursday protesting against dismissal of a petition by the Delhi Bar Association pertaining to creation of new judicial civil courts by the Supreme Court.

According to DBA president Rajiv Khosla, the dismissal of the petition would mean the petition filed by the judicial officers, on the basis of which an earlier order allowing creation of new civil courts was passed by the Supreme Court, would come into effect. “This is unconstitutional as the Supreme Court had overreached its domain. Only the legislature is competent to create a new judicial civil district in the National Capital Region,” said Mr. Khosla.

The DBA president added that creation of new civil courts would only lead to harassment of litigants.
