THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Spencer’s Retail Ltd., one of the largest food retail stores, re-launched its outlet on M.G. Road on Friday. Shaji Kailas, film director, was the guest of honour on the occasion. The outlet on M.G. Road, which has been in existence since 1921 — incidentally, the Spencer junction owes its name to this store — has been completely refurbished to reflect the new brand statement of Spencer’s, ‘Taste the World.’ The brand statement indeed reflects what the store has on offer in all of 3,500 sq. ft., a world-class array of food, fashion accessories, home and entertainment goods. The store has been given an international ambience with many modern-day store fixtures, curving signposts, in-store navigational aids and out-of-the-box in-store communication elements, all of which should make for a delightful shopping experience. Speaking at the launch, G. Murali, vice-president (South) of Spencer’s, said the outlet on M.G. Road has been enjoying the patronage of city residents for a long time and that it has been one of the best performing stores in the chain at the national level. The re-launched store, apart from the international look and feel, also offers a wider range of items in the food and non-food categories, including a host of imported food brands. Speciality baysThe speciality bays have on offer a select range of ingredients used in international cuisine, including the popular Italian, Chinese, Thai and Mexican cuisines. A wider range of organic food and speciality breads are also something that would delight the health-conscious customers. These apart, a selection of both North and South Indian delicacies such as ‘dum biryanis,’ ‘pazham pori,’ ‘parippu vada’ and ‘payasams’ are also being made available here. An entire range of cosmetics and personal care products, electrical goods, stationery, toys, cereals, fruits and vegetable counters and a spacious corner for fish, meat and frozen foods has also been arranged very tastefully here. Even though the store had been closed for over a fortnight for the refurbishment work, it had tried its best to serve its regular customers during this interval by offering free home delivery of their shopping list.
