ANANTAPUR: Anantapur district Collector N. Sridhar owned up responsibility for the district not finishing among the top 10 performing districts in SSC exam and wrote to the State Government on Thursday to relieve him of his duties. While taking up the exercise to improve SSC results, the Collector vowed to take the district into the top 10 districts and said he would not continue in the post if he fails. However, the district came 18th and accordingly, Mr. Sridhar urged the Government to relieve him of the post. He thanked the teachers, students and parents for improving the pass percentage. However, the district topped in registering 17 per cent increase in the pass percentage. The Collector inspired teachers, students and parents and arranged special classes after assessing the students. Against the pass percentage of 53.46 last year 70.33 pc students cleared SSC this year. The district could not improve its place in terms of overall performance by standing 18th place from 23rd last year. Good showThe results are the second best for the district in the last 13 years with a slightly better performance (71.6 pc) only in 2003-04. The special efforts to improve the results launched in December 2007, however, had a tremendous impact on the results. The exercise commenced with the categorisation of the students into four groups based on their performance till half-yearly examinations. The results have also shown good improvement among the students of welfare hostels and residential schools.
