Kheny may face stiff fight in Bidar South

Staff Correspondent

BIDAR: Gurubasappa Kheny and Narendra Kheny from the well-known Ranjol Kheny family in Bidar district had contested the Assembly elections unsuccessfully.

After three decades, Sanjay Kheny of the Ranjol Kheny family is contesting as a BJP candidate from Bidar South. Mr. Sanjay Kheny, who is a businessman, is the cousin of Ashok Kheny, Chairman NICE. Mr. Gurubasappa Kheny, father of Mr. Sanjay Kheny, contested from Humnabad in 1967 on Congress ticket. He contested as an independent from Bidar in 1972. In 1978, the Congress fielded Mr. Narendra Kheny from Humnabad. After 1978, none from the Kheny family contested the elections. However, Mr. Narendra Kheny served as an MLC.

Mr. Sanjay Kheny may face a stiff competition from former Minister Bandeppa Kashempur of JD(S) and Naseemoddin Patel of BSP.

Sources say there are a large number of Lingayat voters in the segment and they are “united” in helping the candidate from their community. Mr. Kheny is a Lingayat.
