‘Janata Dal (S) is on its way out of the election race’

Rahul Gandhi to address meeting in Belgaum on Sunday

Belgaum: The All-India Congress Committee general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, Prithviraj Chavan, on Friday said that the failure of the Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party combine to provide a stable government had cost the State its due progress.

Addressing presspersons here, he said that the coalition government was full of controversies, corruption and scandals.

The BJP’s strength was on the decline after Samajwadi Party leader S. Bangarappa decided to stand against communal forces, he said and added that the Janata Dal (S) was already on its way out of the election race.

To a question, he said that the Congress support to Mr. Bangarappa in Shikaripur constituency in Shimoga district, where he is contesting against B.S. Yeddyurappa, was unconditional.

Mr. Chavan said AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi will campaign for the party in the State on Sunday.

He would start his tour from Bidar and address public meetings in Hubli, Jamkhandi and Belgaum on Sunday.

Mr. Gandhi will address a public meeting in Belgaum city at 5 p.m.
