Legal services authority adopts Pothanur village

To provide legal, medical awareness

NAMAKKAL: The Namakkal District Legal Services Authority has adopted Pothanur village in Paramathi Velur block for providing legal, medical and AIDS awareness to its residents and those in the surrounding areas.

The authority, through the Legal Services and AIDS Awareness Core Group, will form an AIDS Observation Group in the village to increase the awareness level.

Programmes

It will rope in the services of elected representatives, National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, doctors at the primary health centres, volunteers of various non-governmental organisations, teachers, police personnel and officials to conduct awareness programmes frequently in the village.

People in the village and neighbouring areas will be informed about the conduct of the camps through tom tom.

Arrangements will be made to take people from Pothanur village to Namakkal Government Hospital for blood test periodically. NSS volunteers will be encouraged to organise at least one camp a week.

The doctors from Anti-Retroviral Therapy centre at Namakkal will be invited to conduct medical camps routinely.

Counselling centre

The authority will also establish a legal aid counselling centre in Paramathi Velur for conducting counselling on Mondays and Saturdays.

Two advocates will be nominated to provide counselling along with a team of doctors for the people living with HIV/AIDS.

The authority also organised a function in the village recently, in which Madras High Court Justice M. Jaichandran participated. Principal District Judge A. Ratnavelu presided.
