Congress takes to bikes for votes

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president J.P. Agarwal flagged off a motorcycle rally led by Delhi Youth Congress president Anil Choudhary on Friday, the last day of campaigning for the Delhi Cantonment Board elections.

The Congress candidates also undertook foot marches in their respective wards. At many places, they were weighed in coins by supporters who also wished them luck for victory.

The candidates also focused on areas where the minorities stay in large numbers. They went to various mosques during the time of “namaz” and appealed to the people to vote for them.

The Congress, which had on Thursday brought its senior leaders including Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken, and Members of Parliament Sajjan Kumar and Krishna Tirath for campaigning, stuck to door-to-door canvassing for votes on the last day. East Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit was, however, present during the flagging off of the motorcycle rally.

The motorcycle rally later went round all the eight wards. A large number of Congress leaders and workers participated in the rally. Mr. Choudhary also called upon the electorate to vote for the Congress saying the BJP had done nothing for the development of Delhi Cantonment.

Mr. Agarwal said the Congress had a large number of committed youth who would work hard for development of the Delhi Cantonment area.
