K. Taraka Rama Rao HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao has admitted that his party forced byelections on the people but they were aimed to expose the Congress which deceived the people of Telangana after promising them a separate State in 2004 elections. Reacting to the claim of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy that the TRS needlessly thrust the polls on people, Mr. Rao asked at a press conference here on Friday why the Congress was afraid of facing the elections if it was not guilty. He criticised Dr. Reddy for insulting the self-respect of the people of Telangana by stating that the former would not have launched TRS had he been given a ministerial post when he was in the Telugu Desam. He said the byelections were intended to teach the Congress yet another lesson as its leaders had not shed their arrogance after he was re-elected from Karimnagar with a huge majority. Meanwhile, at a meet-the-press organised by AP Working Journalists Federation, Mr. Rao’s son and TRS general secretary K. Taraka Rama Rao said the byelections would decide the fate of Telangana . They would determine the political future of supporters and opponents of separate Telangana. Denying that his induction as a general secretary of TRS amounted to promotion of dynastic politics in the party, he said it was like giving him an “entry pass” only. Family members of politicians grew in stature only if they were acceptable to people. He did not join the movement for the post when he left a job in the US, he added. Public meetingKarimnagar Staff Reporter adds: The TRS president would kick-start his electioneering in the Karimnagar Parliament constituency from Jagtial Assembly segment by addressing a massive public meeting in Jagtial town on Saturday night. Party sources said that the TRS would be organising ‘dhoom dham’ programme in Jagtial town on Saturday with the artistes of various cultural troupes. The party had decided to mobilise over one lakh public for the meeting from Metpally, Buggaram, Jagtial and Choppadandi Assembly segments. Mr. Rao’s son and TRS general secretary K. Rama Rao is supervising the arrangements for the success of the public meeting in Jagtial town, the stronghold of Congress nominee T. Jeevan Reddy. Mr. Rao would also address another massive public meeting in Karimnagar town on May 2, sources said.
