Thiruvananthapuram: The government proposes to organise a month-long celebration to mark the completion of two years in office. Commissioning of completed development projects and inauguration of new projects and welfare programmes, including distribution of benefits, are the highlights of the celebration. Ministers will interact with the media to publicise the achievements of the government during the last two years and its plans for the coming years. This programme will get under way with Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan’s interaction with the media at the Government Guest House at Thycaud here on Saturday morning. All India Radio will broadcast a special programme on the second anniversary at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday. It will also broadcast the Chief Minister’s message at 6.30 p.m. The celebrations at the district level will also get under way on Saturday. In Kollam district, the Chief Minister will dedicate the Karunagapally bus stand at 10 a.m. and commission the Kayamkulam fishing harbour at 11 a.m. In Pathanamthitta district, Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas will inaugurate the construction of the Cherukol – Vettimoottilpadi –Channamangal road in Elanthur block panchayat. Electricity Minister A.K. Balan will inaugurate the celebrations in Palakkad and distribute loans. Industries Minister Elamaram Karim will inaugurate the celebrations in Kozhikode district. The highlight of the celebrations in Wayanad is the writing off of agricultural debts up to Rs.25,000 of 41,000 farmers. In Kannur district, an acre of land each will be distributed to 300 tribal families.
