JAIPUR: The Left parties here have called upon both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party to desist from making “competitive accusations” over this past Tuesday’s serial blasts in Jaipur and demanded that the Rajasthan Government take swift action to identify the culprits and punish them. A three-member delegation of the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and All India Democratic Women’s Association visited the blast sites in the Walled City of Jaipur and met the injured admitted to Sawai Man Singh Hospital. The delegation noted that the financial assistance announced by the State Government was yet to reach the victims. CPI national secretary and Rajya Sabha member D. Raja told reporters that the blame game between political parties would only create confusion and weaken the struggle against terrorism as well as the efforts to provide succour to the victims of the terror attack. He disagreed with the view that the blasts had put the UPA Government at the Centre on the defensive. Mr. Raja said the BJP’s demand for revival of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) in the wake of the blasts was “meaningless” as the existing laws had enough provisions for bringing to book the perpetrators of mass violence. “Despite the presence of POTA during the NDA regime, terrorists attacked Parliament and several other places. The need of the hour is to strengthen the intelligence network and modernise the police force,” he added.
