Armed Police moves up

Periakulam: Armed Police (Coimbatore) entered the pre-quarterfinals of the 49th annual P.D. Chidambara Sourya Narayanan memorial trophy all-India basketball tournament with a narrow 58-55 victory over Sports Hostel of Excellence (Chennai) here on Friday.

The results (second round):

Armed Police, Coimbatore 58 (Rajendran 18, Ganesh Prabu 21, Ramachandran 11) bt Sports Hostel of Excellence, Chennai 55 (Praveen 14).

Hat-trick by Anand

A hat-trick by Anand helped Thirunagar HC (Madurai) defeat Hockey Talent Development Centre (Vadipatti) 3-1 and enter the quarterfinals of the 11th annual Kotahiammal memorial trophy State-level hockey tournament, at Vadipatti, near Madurai on Friday.

The results (pre-quarterfinals): Thirunagar HC 3 (Anand 3, hat-trick) bt Hockey Talent Development Centre, Vadipatti 1 (Kandaguru); G.K. Motors, Madurai 5 (Louis, Praveen Prabu, Jeyaraj 2, Muthu Kumar) bt Blue Friends, Rajapalayam 2 (Kamala Kannan, Pandi).

City Police, Chennai 2 (Stephen, Muthupandi) bt Cholas, Trichy 1 (Pradeep); Ever Great 4 (Ramachandran, Nagendran, Chidambaram, Karthick) bt Cuddalore XI 1 (Prasad).

Camp shifted

The fortnight-long TNCA residential summer cricket coaching camp for under-19 boys was held at the Horticultural Cultural College ground, Periakulam from May 10 to 15.

The camp will be held in Koduvilarpatti till May 23.
