MARS SPECTACLE: A view of the north polar ice cap on Mars taken by NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, new observations from which indicate that the crust and the upper mantle of the red planet are stiffer and colder than previously thought. These suggest that any liquid water below its surface would be located deeper than assumed.
