Davangere records 60 per cent turnout

DAVANGERE: About 60 per cent voter turnout was recorded in Davangere district in the Assembly elections held on Friday. In 2004, the overall polling percentage in the district was 64.

Deputy Commissioner M.B. Dyaberi told presspersons that there was 64 per cent polling the Harihar segment, 48 per cent in Davangere North and 60 per cent in Harpanahalli, Honnali and Davangere South Assembly segments.

Big queues

In the Mayakonda segment, 58 per cent polling was recorded, while Chennagiri witnessed a voter turnout of 56 per cent. In Jagalur, 54 per cent of voters exercised their franchise. Big queues were seen in Dodderi, Chilur and Honalahalli even after 5 p.m. when polling ended. So also in many polling stations in Harpanahalli town and in Jagalur. The police, however, locked the polling stations at 5 p.m. Polling was not brisk in any of the urban areas.
