Rs.9-crore allocation in budget to be utilised Proposal to modernise Yatri Nivas Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) will modernise all its hotels in six months as part of a quality upgrade programme, corporation chairman Cherian Philip said here on Friday. The Rs.9-crore fund earmarked in the budget will be used for the purpose, he said. The heritage block of the 90-year-old Mascot Hotel was being modernised in an attractive manner. Thirty more rooms would be constructed in Tea County at Munnar. Convention centresConvention centres would be set up in Hotel Samudra at Kovalam and Bolgatty in Kochi. Waterscapes at Kumarakam would also get a new look, Mr. Philip said. Observation towers would be constructed in the bird sanctuary, he added. Maintenance and repair would be done and modern facilities would be provided at Hotel Chaithram in Thiruvananthpuram and Nandanam at Guruvayoor. Lake Palace at Thekkady would be given a facelift without affecting its classic beauty. Periyar House at Thekkady and Thannermukkam Ayurveda Resort would be raised to premium standards, he said. KTDC also proposed to modernise the eight Yatri Nivas under it and convert them into Tamarind Hotels. New toilets would come up at all ‘aarams.’ All hotel rooms would be provided with air conditioners, geysers and television sets.
