CONGESTED: The Tiruchi Taluk office at Town Hall building in Tiruchi. —
TIRUCHI: Tiruchi Taluk Office, currently functioning at the Town Hall in the City, would move over to a new location soon as the State Government has approved the construction of a new building.
The new building would come up near the District Rural Development Agency’s Rural Mart on Bharathidasan Road in Cantonment.
The shifting of the office would give a huge relief to residents as the office is currently located in the middle of the congested commercial nerve centre of the city.
The office now functions from the ancient Rani Mangammal Darbar Hall complex, with limited infrastructure and office space. Access to the office is difficult for many residents as it is located off the Chinna Kadai Street where there is no public transport. The State Government has sanctioned the new building for the Taluk Office in the Budget this year. Estimates were being prepared currently and the building is expected to cost about Rs.1.60 crore.
The building would come up at Union Club land which was handed over to the district administration recently.
Collector T.Soundiah told The Hindu that the foundation stone for the new building would be laid soon and the office would be ready in six months thereafter.
