The innovation competition was conducted by Ashoka Changemakers, a global forum that encourages social innovation and entrepreneurship in common problems faced by different countries like on safe drinking water. Naandi’s community-based programme currently supplies clean drinking water to 20 lakh underprivileged in villages of Andhra Pradesh and Punjab and has plans to expand to Haryana soon. The Foundation was declared as one of the 3 winners from 264 entries pertaining from 54 nations. The two other winners are also from India. “We are proud to have reached this milestone through tough competition,” said Amit Jain, the foundation’s National Director (Water Programme), said in a press release. Naandi’s model was recognised by a panel of leading experts as an ‘outstanding demonstration of innovation, social impact, and sustainability’ and ’represents the best of social innovation and commitment in the water and sanitation sector’.
