Tuned in: Cricketers V. V. S. Laxman and Adam Gilchrist on Big 92.7 FM radio station on Friday . HYDERABAD: It was an unfamiliar terrain. But, explosive Adam Gilchrist, acting captain of Deccan Chargers, and elegant V. V. S. Laxman were at ease during an interactive session with the listeners of the Big 92.7 FM in their studio. They were relaxed and seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed the role of jockeys. They even joked at each other keeping the listeners engrossed. Questions from listeners varied from the most disappointing to the most memorable moments in IPL but there was never any discomfiture on the cricketers’ faces despite their team’s dismal run. “I must say a wonderful thanks to all the locals who are supporting us. Keep doing that as we try to keep improving,” remarked Gilchrist. ‘Disappointing’Of course, he confessed it was disappointing to be in a position where the team doesn’t have a chance to quality for the semis. Laxman said his most memorable moment was the celebrations after Gilly’s blazing and match-winning ton against Mumbai Indians as it happened to be the Aussie superstar’s wedding anniversary too. “It was exciting and thoroughly enjoyable when we smeared the cake on his face,” he said. The Australian known for his quick reflexes replied in a flash: “I think that was fantastic and hope to celebrate the next anniversary with my wife and hope the IPL will continue for 100 more years!” During the interaction, Laxman was asked by Gilchrist on how popular radio here was. The Hyderabadi said it was not so big a medium here. “Back home radio has a huge impact,” the Aussie exclaimed. Once the programme came to an end, it was Gilchrist all the way as he signed countless autographs with a smile while Laxman with a bandaged right wrist was game to sign from his left much to the fans delight!
