THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Students and teachers of various departments of University of Kerala took part in a pre-monsoon cleaning drive on the Karyavattom campus of the university and by the sides of the national highway nearby on Friday. The drive was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor M.K. Ramachandran Nair. The drive was organised as part of the pre-monsoon sanitation drive announced by the State government. The sanitation drive included clearing blocked drains, draining away stagnant water and cleaning places that could harbour mosquitoes. Pledge takenThe students and teachers also took a pledge that they would work to control vectors inside the campus, would take stringent action against those throwing garbage in front of the campus and would work to keep the campus plastic-free. It was Dr. Nair who administered the pledge. Syndicate members A.R. Rajan and T. Rajmohan were among those who participated in the pre-monsoon sanitation drive, a press note issued here said.
