Special day: Sarojini, a woman convict, with her new-born baby during the cradle ceremony at the Central Prison in the city on Friday. VISAKHPATNAM: For Sarojini, it was a day she would never forget. Even as she struggles to come to terms with her uncertain future, the birth of her girl child in the Central Prison at Adavivaram, where Sarojini is currently lodged, has brought in unbridled happiness in her life. Joy and jubilation filled the jail premises when a grand function was organised as part of the customary ‘cradle ceremony’ for the girl child to coincide with the 21st day of her birth on Friday. The child was named Bhavani by the local priest who performed the ceremony in the presence of other women inmates of the prison. Jail Superintendent A. Narasimha blessed the child and took part in the celebrations along with the other jail officials. Kancharla Atchutarao, the president of Sai Ram Seva Samiti, presented new clothes to Sarojini and her child, distributed sarees among the women inmates and also donated two television sets. “This is the best day of my life,” said an emotional Sarojini.
