ON THE JOB: CPI(M) candidate from Musheerabad S. Veeraiah during the padayatra at Bagh Lingampally. HYDERABAD: Having worked with trade unions of various industries for over two decades in Musheerabad, CPI (M) candidate S. Veeraiah feels that he has enough support to win the bypoll. In fact, he points out that in the last four years his party had developed a strong local cadre in various divisions. With the support of the TDP, the CPI (M) was focussing on basic issues like roads, water and electricity supply, house sites for slum dwellers, more spending by GHMC for slum development and lobbying for flyover in Musheerabad. “In the last four years, no infrastructure projects were taken up. The Congress had made promises of house sites and houses but didn’t keep them. Housing is a big worry for families here and we will strive to solve it. I have been personally involved in various struggles of the middle class through residential welfare associations,” he says. He would also fight against the proposal to shift the fish market at Musheerabad to L. B. Nagar. “The families of the fishermen community are settled near to the fish market. If they are asked to shift to L.B. Nagar, they stand to lose their livelihood,” he said.
