Traveller held for possessing forged visa

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A 42-year-old man from East Godavari district was arrested by the immigration officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad on Friday on charges of travelling with duplicate documents. This is the second such incident in the airport in the last few days. Police said that M. Venkata Satyanarayana was trying to board a Kuwait-bound flight when authorities intercepted him and verified his travel documents only to find that he possessed a visa with forged name – Venkata Swamy Kona along with his original passport.

He was immediately taken into custody and was handed over to the police for taking further action. Police inquiries revealed that Satyanarayana went to Kuwait in 2001 and worked as a labourer. He returned to his native place in East Godavari district three months ago with the same visa.

“We booked cases under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 12 of the Indian Passport Act against Satyanarayana and arrested him,” said Shamshabad Inspector M. Ramchandrudu. He said five such cases were reported since the inauguration of international airport in March last. On Wednesday last, 31-year-old P. Bayamma from West Godavari district was nabbed for attempting to fly to Kuwait with fake documents.

Demonstration

Several passengers were put to inconvenience today when some private cab drivers (Meru taxi) held a demonstration protesting against hefty subscription fee being collected from them by the management. The drivers later called-off the agitation after officials concerned promised to settle the issue soon.
