Police rescue missing girl

Three persons have been arrested

TAMBARAM: More than a month after she went missing from her home in Tambaram, a 17-year-old girl was rescued from Kuniyamuthur in Coimbatore district and brought back on Friday.

The police said they rescued her after she lodged a complaint at Kuniyamuthur police station on Thursday.

According to the police, the girl and was staying with her elder sister and attended classes at a tutorial college here to prepare for the Standard X examinations as a private candidate.

At the tutorial, she had told one of her classmates and her mother, about her poor family background. Through the classmate’s mother, a resident of Perungalathur, the girl came into contact with two youths, Riyaz and Sathish.

The police said that following the woman’s suggestion, the girl gave her consent to marry one Abdul Rahman (44), hailing from Kuniyamuthur. On April 11, the girl left her home and went with Abdul Rahman to Palakkad before settling down in a house at Kuniyamuthur.

During the course of her stay there, she learnt that Abdul Rahman was already married. On Thursday, she went to the Kuniyamuthur police station and lodged a complaint. Information reached Chennai City Police Headquarters, who in turn alerted personnel at Chromepet station. She was brought to Chromepet station along with Abdul Rahman on Friday morning. Later in the day, her classmate’s mother and Sathish were secured by the police. A search is on for Riyaz. Sathish and Abdul Rahman were booked under Sections 363 (kidnapping) and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code. Her classmate’s mother was booked under 109 (abetment) and 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy) of IPC.
