HYDERABAD: The AP Transco has finalised plans to construct three more 400-KV sub-stations in the State and improve the quality and reliability of electricity being supplied to consumers. These will take the total number of such high voltage sub-stations to 12, including the one at Gajwel in Medak district which will be commissioned next month after completion of the byelections. The three new sub-stations have been proposed at Malkapur in Ranga Reddy district, Yeddu Mylaram in Medak and Narasaraopet in Guntur district. Each sub-station will be built on an extent of 80-100 acres of land at a cost of Rs. 250 crore each. A large extent of land is required for 400-KV stations as staff quarters are also provided in the premises for round the clock operation and vigilance. Once work is started, a 400-KV sub-station may not take more than two years to build. Additional 400-KV sub-stations will cut down transmission losses, save power and improve voltage of the supply at user-end. Power supplied will be qualitative with stable voltage. Power is being supplied in the State with a certain percentage of quality and reliability as there are over ten 400-KV sub-stations of the Power Grid Corporation of India under operation in the State. Meanwhile, AP Transco is relieved by the drop in demand by 15 million units with the close of rabi/ examination season. The demand is now hovering around 180 MU a day and this is being met without much difficulty in spite of backing down of some thermal units for overhaul.
