Abhijeet and Parimarjan share lead

NEW DELHI: Abhijeet Gupta joined compatriot Parimarjan Negi in the lead by inflicting a 42-move defeat on third-seeded French GM Christian Bauer in the seventh round of the Kaupthing Open chess tournament at Differdange, Luxembourg, on Thursday. Parimarjan drew with joint leader and second seed Andrei Istratescu in 34 moves.

The results (involving Indians): Seventh round: Parimarjan Negi (5.5) drew with Andrei Istratescu (Rom, 5.5); Abhijeet Gupta (5.5) bt Christian Bauer (Fra, 4.5); Sebastian Feller (Fra, 4) drew with Tania Sachdev (4); Fred Berend (Lux, 4) bt Sahaj Grover (3).
