Over 20,000 families register names under job guarantee scheme so far

Persons seeking employment should volunteer for unskilled manual work

Eligible persons will be given a photo identity card free of cost


Krishnagiri: Over 20,867 families in 50 project villages in the district have registered their names seeking employment under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme so far District Revenue Officer C. Nagarajan has said.

The district administration had made arrangements to take photographs of these people free of cost and issue identity cards to them.

Savings bank account

A team of officials from District Rural Development agency were monitoring the registration process.

The administration asked the persons, who received their identity cards, to open a savings bank account in one of the nationalised bank branches.

Wages

The government appointed a deputy block development officer, an assistant and two computer assistants in each block for the implementation of the scheme he said.

Mr. Nagarajan said that a sum of Rs.7,04,433 had been given away as wages at the rate of Rs.80 a day to both men and women since the scheme was launched on May 2.

Accordingly a sum of Rs.1.09,089 had been given away as wages to beneficiaries in Veppanapalli block, Rs.95,107 in Shoolagiri block and Rs.90,018 in Hosur block.

Sanction

The District administration had also given administrative sanction to around 100 works to the tune of Rs.346 lakhs in these villages.

These included creation of new tanks, renovation of the existing ones, development of irrigation canals and construction of roads.

The remaining panchayats will be selected in a phased manner.

Persons seeking employment should volunteer for unskilled manual work. They should submit a written application or express their interest in person to the respective panchayat president.

Eligible persons will be given a photo identity card free of cost.

Photographs will be taken free of cost facilitating them to register for work.

Facilities

The wages will be disbursed once in a week. Drinking water and first aid facilities will be provided at the work place. The grievances regarding the scheme can be sent to the Block Development Officer, District Rural Development Agency Project Officer and the Collector.
