ANANTAPUR: The All-India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) and the All-India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO) took out a protest procession here on Friday against the issuance of GO 118 to accord semi-autonomous status to the Government Medical College (GMC) and the attached teaching (general) hospital. The activists raised slogans demanding withdrawal of the GO. The procession was taken out from Tower Clock to medical college. Speaking at the conclusion of the procession, State secretary of AIDSO D. Raghavendra said the State and Central governments were doing business with medical education and health services though they were supposed to provide free healthcare to people. Lack of infrastructure and facilities had already made the health services in government hospitals a farce. He urged the government to stop efforts to accord semi-autonomous status to five medical and two dental colleges in the State.
