BANGALORE: The Department of Pre-University Education has cleared 22,547 requests for photocopying of answer scripts for revaluation and about 12,000 students have already received their copies. Photocopying procedures, which were delayed till last Monday due to teachers being deployed for election duty, is going on in full swing at the department. Around 15,000 students have applied this year and with each student applying for more than one answer script, the process is laborious. Photocopying costs Rs. 300, which will be refunded if the marks increase by more than six marks on revaluation or re-totalling. More than 300 people were seen working with the indenting, verification, photocopying and despatching of photocopy sheets at the department. Lecturers, who were also involved in the evaluation procedure, were taking care of the section. M.K.I. Farooqui, from Government P.U. College, had to rough it out on election duty till May 10, he reported back to work on Monday. “The remuneration is hardly an incentive for these people. It is the spirit of service that brings us here. It is quite a difficult task because we have to ensure nothing goes missing too,” he said. Though the P.U. Department has taken evaluators to task for not reporting for duty, these teachers said that they were doing it voluntarily and take pride in the system’s transparency.
