H.P. to spread broadband services

SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh Telecommunication Circle plans to make provision of broadband services to the remote and tribal areas of the hill State its priority for the year ahead.

Addressing a press conference here on the eve of World Telecommunication and Information Day, BSNL general manager Anil Kaushal said the department was planning to provide low-cost computers in collaboration with HCL to the maximum possible number of people in the State. It was also planned to provide broadband services in every nook and corner of the State.

Huge telecom network

Mr. Kaushal claimed that the State had a huge network of village telecom services with 16,297 out of a total of 16,425 villages covered.

BSNL is providing broadband services in more than 160 small and big towns of Himachal Pradesh nd has data connectivity at 167 locations, wireless connectivity at 709 locations and 1,067 telephone exchanges.
