Bihar Minister resigns
Special Correspondent
PATNA: Bihar’s new Transport Minister Ramanand Prasad Singh put in his papers on Saturday, after it came to light that he was chargesheeted in a corruption case about 17 years ago when he was a government official.
Governor R.S. Gavai accepted the resignation forwarded by the Chief Minister.
The Vigilance filed the charge sheet in connection with the purchase of substandard pipes by the Kanti Thermal Power Station in Muzaffarpur, where Mr. Singh was employed in 1991, after a raid revealed that he was possession of assets in excess of the known sources of his income.
In November 2005, Jitan Ram Manjhi resigned, within 24 hours of his appointment as Minister, when it was disclosed that his name figured in a scam. He was, however, re-inducted last month after he was cleared of the charges.
