Armed Police advances

Periakulam: Armed Police, Coimbatore entered the pre-quarter finals of the 49th annual P.D. Chidambara Sourya Narayanan memorial Trophy all-India basketball tournament organised by Silver Jubilee Sports Club with a narrow 58-55 victory over the fancied Sports Hostel of Excellence, Chennai here on Friday.

In another match, Jeppiaar College of Engineering, Chennai, chief sponsor of this tournament, beat Udumalpet Basketball Club 101-45.

The results (second round): Armed Police, Coimbatore 58 (Rajendran 18, Ganesh Prabu 21, Ramachandran 11) bt Sports Hostel of Excellence, Chennai 55 (Praveen 14).

Jeppiaar College of Engg., Chennai 101 (Kannan 20, Arunchandradas 20, Praveen 17) bt Udumalpet BC 45 (Chandru 18, Suresh Kumar 16).

First round: Udumalpet BC 61 (Suresh Kumar 14, Chandru 13, Vijay Pandi 13) bt Bodi BC 41 (Alagar Raja 15, Prasath Kumar 15).

Sethu BC, Madurai 70 (Baranivelrajan 20, Sasikumar 17, Jai Ganesh 16) bt Young Stars BC, Batlagundu 65 (Thiagarajan 31, Jeyakumar 11, Ravichandran 11).

Armed Police, Coimbatore 60 (Rajendran 21, Ramachandran 13) bt Wings BC, Dindigul 48 (Chandra Kumar 21, Hariharan 10).

Coaching camp

The fortnight-long TNCA Residential summer cricket coaching camp for boys below-19 years organised by Theni District Cricket Association was held at the Horticultural Cultural College ground, Periakulam from May 10 to 15.

The camp had been shifted to Theni on May 16 and will be held at the Theni Kammavar Songh Teachers Training Institute ground, Koduvilarpatti till May 23.
