Call to transfer pension scheme

Staff Reporter

To the State Government, says forum

PUDUKOTTAI: The Pudukottai regional unit of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation Retired Employees’ Association has urged the Corporation to transfer the implementation of the pension scheme to the state government.

A resolution adopted at its regional executive meeting held here recently referred to the in-ordinate delay in the disbursement of pension to the retired employees due to administrative processes being adopted by the Corporation.

While the state government credited the pension to the bank accounts on the first working day every month, the Corporation took at least a week’s time to disburse the pension, the resolution said urging the Corporation to transfer the responsibility to the state government which had a wider network of manpower and other infrastructure including the Treasury.

Another resolution urged the state government to introduce pension benefits with retrospective effect from 1972, the year when the bus sector was nationalised. Presently, the pension scheme benefited only those who retired since 1998.

The meeting also wanted payment of a family relief of Rs. 1 lakh to benefit the next of kin, on the death of the pensioner.

It also suggested the recovery of a monthly subscription from the pension towards the relief.

The vice-president of the Association K. Narayanan said that the centralised approval by the Pension Committee in Chennai for sanctioning the monthly pension was one of the major causes for the delay in the disbursement of the pension.

The following were elected office-bearers of the Association: president: K. Narayanan; secretary: P. Tirunavukkarasu and treasurer: I. Arockiasamy.
