Adulterated tea seized from two shops

BANGALORE: The Central Crime Branch police on Saturday raided two shops in the city and recovered gunny bags containing adulterated tea powder.

The CCB team raided Prakash Tea Agencies and Khwaja Tea Agencies on Arcot Srinivasachar Road in Cottonpet police station limits and seized 16 tonnes of adulterated tea from Prakash Tea Agencies and 18 tonnes from Khwaja Tea Agencies, according to a press note.

The police said the adulterated tea had been brought from Guwahati and Nilgiris. Samples of the tea powder were sent to confirm the presence of harmful chemicals.

The police have booked cases against Sridhar (48) and Mohammed Akramulla (32), owners of Prakash Tea Agencies and Khwaja Tea Agencies respectively, and B. Sharavana (30) and Yunish Pasha (21), employed in the shops.
