“Orientation programmes on safe driving must”

Special Correspondent

TIRUCHI: The Consumer Protection Council, Tamil Nadu, has urged the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation to organise orientation programmes on safe driving for its drivers.

Putting forward various demands at a consultative meeting organised by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Tiruchi, here recently, its secretary, S. Pushpavanam, sought restrictions on speed limits and publication of accident figures every month. No excess fare should be collected if the services halted in all regular bus stops. For circular route city buses, the route must be clearly indicated. All buses must have low flooring.

There were objections to playing music through tape recorder in the buses. Indiscriminate parking of buses at corners of road junctions and on the middle of the road away from bus stops should be avoided, he said.
