Recognition: The former Chief Justice of India M.N. Venkatachalaiah (second from right) felicitating V. Parameshvara on his 77th birthday in Bangalore on Sunday. BANGALORE: The former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission and former Chief Justice of India M.N. Venkatachalaiah has called for equitable and universal spread of medical care. He was speaking at the 77th birthday celebrations of philanthropist and medical professional V. Parameshvara. Mr. Venkatachalaiah said that professional medical care could not be restricted to certain sections of society but should be extended to all classes of people irrespective of urban or rural, rich or poor. He said throughout his life, Dr. Parameshvara practised this philosophy. Others who felicitated Dr. Parameshvara include legal experts V.S. Malimath and Rama Jois, Director of the Nuclear medicine division at Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai, R.D. Lele and former Planning Commission member J.S. Bajaj, Lexicographer G. Venkatasubbiah, chairman of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan N. Ramanuja and others. Four books, including a commemoration volume on Dr. Parameshvaran and medicine ethics and practice, biography of Dr. V. Parameshvara, and Hrudya Bene- Aaraike Chikitse in Kannada were released on the occasion.
