LUCKNOW: The headmaster and an assistant teacher of a higher primary school at Fariha village in Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh have been suspended on charges of consuming liquor on the school premises and objectionable behaviour. The headmaster, Shyam Babu Sabita, was later arrested under sections 290/294 of the Indian Penal Code. The services of the “shiksha mitra,” Mamta Pal were terminated with immediate effect. The action was taken by District Magistrate of Auraiya Jai Prakash Tripathi. A news channel had shown the headmaster consuming liquor and later reciting couplets in an intoxicated state. An official press statement quoting the District Magistrate issued here on Sunday said an inquiry found the charges to be true. Deposing before the inquiry committee, gram pradhan Savitri Devi and some others said the headmaster accompanied by some mediapersons came to the primary school on motorcycles on May 13. The school examinations were on and they waited for them to be over. The media persons then sent some villagers to fetch liquor and eatables. According to the District Magistrate, the official in charge of Fariha circle, Ram Kishore, was placed under suspension for concealing information and dereliction of duty. The “shiksha mitra” was dismissed from service for conniving with him. Departmental proceedings had been initiated for terminating the services of the headmaster.
