Bhubaneswar: Accusing the BJD-BJP Government in Orissa of failing to prepare its list of families living below the poverty line (BPL) in last six years, the Congress on Sunday claimed that six lakh elderly people were deprived of old-age pension given by the Centre due to the State’s negligence. “Orissa Government has failed to take any step to prepare the list of BPL families in the state and send it to Centre, but is trying to mislead people by blaming Centre,” Orissa Congress general secretary Prasad Harichandan told reporters. Charging the Naveen Patnaik Government of giving false information that 10 lakh people were omitted from the list of BPL families in the State because of the Centre, he said there was no question of deleting names of beneficiaries as the State Government was yet to submit any BPL list. Six lakh people were deprived of old age pension under National Indira Gandhi Bardhakya Bhatta Scheme of the Centre as the State had not provided any list of beneficiaries, Mr. Harichandan alleged. Poor people in the state were deprived of the national health insurance scheme announced by the Centre because the state government was yet to send a list of beneficiarires, he claimed. PTI
