MADURAI: To help thousands of patients visiting the Government Rajaji Hospital, the administration has planned to set up a ‘May I help you’ centre, said the Collector, S.S. Jawahar.

After participating in the environmental sanitation committee meeting here on Saturday, he said that steps would be initiated to establish the centre after discussions with the hospital staff on modalities to be followed and added that it could provide information to visitors regarding the location of wards and other facilities.

Efforts were on to set up two Aavin parlours on the premises, including one by the Madurai dairy, he said.

Commending the efforts of the hospital microbiologists and entomologists in effectively following vector control measures, he said that the administration took proactive steps to identify mosquito breeding grounds in the hospital and took preventive steps.

Sample studies

Sample studies were conducted to employ correct methods to eliminate fresh water mosquito species and steps were taken to destroy those that bred in sewage water, said Mr. Jawahar.

Under the public private partnership, reverse osmosis mineral water plants and geysers would be installed in the Government Rajaji Hospital and arrangements had been made to set up solar water heaters in Madurai Medical College, he said.

Prepaid auto system to be introduced

A prepaid auto system on the lines of the model followed in Bangalore Airport would soon be put into practice in Madurai, he said and added that the system would be made available in Mattuthavani integrated bus stand and railway junction, covering more than 100 destinations.

A service charge of Rs.2 would be collected from the passenger for availing the facility, he said.
