KORAPUT: Members of the ‘All Orissa Elementary Trained Graduate Teachers Association have announced plan to go on hunger strike and self-immolation in the State capital on May 21 if the Government fails to meet their demands, according to Ajit Kumar Lima, general secretary of the Koraput district branch of the association. In a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister, the association alleged that the State Government had failed to keep its promise even though the Chief Minister himself had promised on the occasion of Teachers’ Day last year to make necessary amendments to facilitate promotional benefits to eligible primary school teachers having B.Ed. qualification . While the promotional benefits had been given in other districts, it was not carried out only in Koraput, the association alleged . The members took out a rally before handing over a memorandum to the ADM in the Collector’s office.
