Stir threat over shifting of varsity

Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: Students Federation of India, in association with other unions, is gearing up to launch an agitation in North Andhra and Godavari districts in protest against the decision to set up Central University at Kadapa instead of Visakhapatnam.

Though the Union HRD Ministry had initially favoured the location of the Central University in and around the city, the State Cabinet sprang a surprise recently to establish it at Kadapa, home district of the Chief Minister.

SFI will be holding a student leaders’ meeting in the city shortly to finalise action plan to spearhead an agitation. “It will be done in a peaceful manner,” SFI district president B. Jagan told reporters on Sunday.

He regretted that even Ministers and MLAs belonging to Andhra region had not criticized the move.

He said there was no Central University in the entire North Andhra stretch, Orissa and Chhattisgarh.
