JAIPUR: Over 3.90 lakh families living below poverty line will be among the new 6.88 lakh recipients of domestic power connections in the rural areas of Rajasthan under a special drive to be launched shortly. With this, the waiting list of applicants till March 31 this year will be cleared. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, presiding over a review meeting of the Energy Department here over the week-end, instructed the power distribution companies to dispose of all applications for electricity connections in the villages and ensure the supply of a superior quality of power in the rural areas. The discom officials pointed out that as many as 30,686 villages across the State were getting electricity of the same quality as that supplied to the cities. Over 5,500 other villages are expected to get the similar electricity after successful completion of the feeder renovation programme. The meeting was told that 4.15 lakh BPL families had been given electricity connections during the last four years. The discoms have also decided to release 1.63 lakh new connections in the sparsely populated areas and hamlets under the “Mukhya Mantri Sabke Liya” (Chief Minister for all) scheme. The power supply lines will be laid within a radius of one km from the 11 KV transformers for groups comprising 10 consumers each. Besides, the demand notices for 50,000 agricultural power connections have already been issued. Ms. Raje said arrangements for supply of sufficient electricity to farmers during the next rabi season should be made in advance and asked the discom officials to perform strict monitoring of the release of connections of all categories strictly on schedule. Among others, Minister of State for Energy Gajendra Singh, Chief Secretary D.C. Samant, Energy Secretary Shrimat Pandey, Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam’s Chairman and Managing Director S.K. Kalla, and Chairman of the Jaipur, Jodhpur and Ajmer Discoms, R.G. Gupta, attended the meeting.
