Keep a tab on cycle buyers: Gujarat police

Special Correspondent

AHMEDABAD: In the aftermath of the Jaipur serial bomb blasts, the Gujarat police have cautioned cycle dealers in the State to keep a close watch on buyers.

While the police did not say so officially, a dealer in Vadodara confirmed that he had received an instruction from the city police to keep a tab on all those who come to buy new cycles. The dealers were told to keep a record of the names and addresses of buyers and their contact numbers, if any.

When asked, a senior police official admitted that it was not possible for the dealers to cross-check the information given by the buyers, but it would at least help the police zero in on any buyer who was later found to have given false information.

The instructions were issued after it was found that in Jaipur bombs were kept on cycles, all of which had been bought just a few hours before the blasts on Tuesday evening.
