Varun wins under-12 title

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Varun Nair won the under-12 boys’ singles title in the Sri Chitra State tennis championship at the TTC courts here on Sunday. In a one-sided final, Varun Nair crushed Madhav Narayan Kumar 9-2 to win the title.

J.S. Arun Raj and Anand George will lock horns in the final in both the boys’ under-18 and the under-16 categories.

In girls’ section, A.V. Rithika will meet Sneha Susan Thomas in the under-14 final.

The results: Boys: Under-18 (semifinals): J.S. Arun Raj bt C.L. Vivek 7-5, 6-4; Anand George bt Pritish Kishore Kumar 6-1, 6-2. Under-16 (semifinals): J.S. Arun Raj bt Mathew T. Lathra 9-1, Anand George bt Aamir Soharab 9-2. Under-14 (semifinal): Sachin Vinoth bt Aamir Soharab 9-7, S.V. Kiran bt Aqeel Faheem 9-7. Under-12 (final): Varun Nair bt Madhav Narayan Kumar 9-2.

Girls: Under-14 (semifinal): A.V. Rithika bt Anjali Jaindhan 8-6; Sneha Susan Thomas bt Janet Michael 8-2. Under-12 (semifinal): A.V.Rithika bt Thanvi Bhat 8-1; Anjali Jaindhan bt Begum Yasmine 8-1.
