Warrant against film producer

Kozhikode: The city police searched the ashram of Vishwachaitanya, an accused in a cheque bounce case who is a film director and producer, at Karanthur, 15 km from here, on Sunday.

A court in Thodupuzha in Idukki district has issued a warrant against Vishwachaitanya, known as S. Sunil till becoming a swami.

City Police Commissioner Anup Kuruvilla John said the warrant could not be served since the swami was out of town.

The ashram inhabitants told the police that he had left for New Delhi a few days ago in connection with the release of his latest film, Theruvoram.

The warrant, which is not the first one being issued against him in the case, has come to the town police station. The case was registered five years ago under Section 138 (dishonouring of cheque for insufficiency of funds in the account) of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

The allegation is that the cheques issued by Vishwachaitanya to film actors had bounced.

He had directed and produced some commercial films such as Manathekottaram, Chanda, Vriddanmare Sookshikukka, Poonilamazha, Vanarasena, Gandhari and Bharanakoodam.

His previous venture, Poonilamazha, shot in Mauritius and the Seychelles led to huge financial losses, sources pointed out.

Theruvoram is based on the life of street children.

A few street children were in the cast.
